Золотистою долиной
Ты уходишь, нем и дик.
Тает в небе журавлиный
Удаляющийся крик.

You depart, mute and wild.
In the sky the cranes’ receding cry

The pillow was faintly damp.
I dreamed that, to bid me farewell,
You walked through the woods one after another.
You came in a crowd, alone and in pairs,
And suddenly someone recalled that today
Was August sixth by the old calendar,
The Transfiguration of the Lord.
Usually, on this day, light without flame
Streams from Mount Tabor,
And autumn, clear as a sign,
Captivates every gaze…
“Farewell, transfigured azure,
And the gold of the second feast of the Savior.
With a final womanly caress,
Soften the bitterness of my fateful hour.
Farewell, years out of time;
Let us part, you woman
Who challenged the abyss of humiliation!
I am the field of your battle.
Farewell, the sweep of an outstretched wing,
The free persistence of flight,
The image of the world revealed in words,
